Medical coders are the communicators between doctors, patients and insurance companies. They translate diagnoses and procedures into alphanumeric or numeric codes. At first these codes were only used as the cause of death on a death certificate but now they are used to code injuries, diseases and medical procedures. Diagnostic and procedural codes greatly help speed up the payment process. Advance medial coders have a number of other responsibilities.
